Welcome to Alt Vault.

If your wardrobe has ever made absolutely no sense to anybody except you, you’re in the right place.

Maybe Monday you’re channelling cyberpunk queen.

Tuesday? Goth.

Wednesday somehow involves something pink, ridiculous and kawaii.

By Friday you’ve thrown on a band tee, boots and enough eyeliner to concern a sensible person.

Perfect.

Alt Vault was made for you.

Alternative Style Isn’t a Uniform

Somewhere along the way, alternative fashion became surprisingly good at creating rules.

You’re not goth enough.

You’re too colourful to be alternative.

You’re too old for that.

You can’t mix those aesthetics.

You don’t listen to the right music.

You bought something from a mainstream shop, so apparently your membership card has been confiscated.

We’re not doing that here.

Alt Vault isn’t interested in deciding whether you’re alternative enough.

I’m much more interested in helping you discover what happens when you stop dressing according to somebody else’s rulebook.

So, What Is Alt Vault?

Alt Vault is a home for alternative fashion, beauty, music and culture.

We’re going to explore everything from goth and punk to cyberpunk, grunge, emo, kawaii and aesthetics that don’t fit neatly into any particular box.

Expect:

Fashion. Outfit inspiration, alternative shopping finds, styling experiments and ways to make pieces work across completely different aesthetics.

Beauty. Dramatic makeup, colourful makeup, dark makeup, theatrical makeup and products that deserve somewhere more interesting to live than the bottom of your makeup bag.

Music. Because alternative style and music have always been intertwined. There will be playlists, genre-inspired styling and plenty of opportunities to discover something new.

Culture. Subcultures, nostalgia, fandom, creativity and all the wonderfully strange things sitting around the edges.

And eventually, something bigger.

Alt Vault Is Becoming an App

Yep.

The blog is only the beginning.

I’m currently developing the Alt Vault app — a place designed to bring alternative style inspiration together rather than making you dig through seventeen different corners of the internet to find it.

The vision is simple:

Unlock your alternative style, whatever your vibe.

Fashion inspiration. Beauty. Music. Discovery. Community.

All living inside one Alt Vault.

I’ll be sharing the development journey as it happens, including ideas, previews and probably the occasional moment where I wonder why I decided building an app sounded sensible.

For now, you can follow along for updates.

And Who Am I?

Hi, I’m Hayley Esther.

My background is in fashion, beauty, styling, marketing and blogging, and I’ve spent years creating content around the things I love.

But I’ve never been particularly interested in fitting neatly into one aesthetic.

I like fashion that has a personality.

I like beauty that actually feels fun.

I like clothes that make you want to become a slightly different version of yourself for the afternoon.

And I firmly believe beige has already had more than enough airtime.

Alt Vault gives me somewhere to put all of that.

Your Style Can Change

This might be the most important rule of Alt Vault:

You don’t have to pick one.

You can love goth fashion and wear pink.

You can listen to punk and adore kawaii accessories.

You can experiment with cyberpunk without replacing your entire wardrobe.

You can rediscover the alternative style you loved when you were sixteen at thirty, forty, fifty or seventy.

You can wake up tomorrow and decide you want to try something completely different.

Style is supposed to evolve because you evolve.

There will be no alternative-style purity tests hiding in this vault.

Let’s Unlock It

Over the next few posts, we’re going right back to the beginning.

We’ll explore different alternative aesthetics, build outfits, raid the beauty cupboard, create playlists and figure out how to experiment without feeling like you need to purchase an entirely new identity every six months.

Some things will be wearable.

Some things will be theatrical.

Some things may be completely ridiculous.

Those will probably be my favourites.
